Our campaign
WHO WE ARE
This campaign is brought to you by fourth-year Pharmacy students our aim is to improve the health of our local community in Stoke-On-Trent and its surrounding areas. We identified a local need for alcohol awareness and a need to reduce alcohol consumption especially regarding people aged between 16-25-year-olds.
THE NEED FOR SUCH HEALTH CAMPAIGN
Excessive drinking and binge drinking are a major problem affecting people from all walks of life. it is a major problem that is plaguing not only the whole country but especially in our local community of Stoke-On-Trent. In Stoke-on-Trent, the levels of alcohol-related mortality, hospital admissions, chronic liver disease are significantly higher than the national average. Not only is this a strain on local healthcare it affects the social and economic lives of those people who suffer from alcoholism. Also in Stoke-On-Tent young people are more likely to binge drink and not complete alcohol treatment courses.
OUR AIM
This campaign will help to provide online advice and support to the local community in search of help as a result of their own or others’ drinking. Run campaigns like NO DRINK WEEKEND and Alcohol Awareness Week encourages millions of people to change their drinking habits and would help to create more informed and balanced drinking cultures across the community. By raising the awareness of alcohol dependency and offering alternative ways to reducing the amount of alcohol consumed we aim to decrease the number of alcohol-related illness and deaths in the city. Our aim is to try to target the most vulnerable group and most likely to drink high levels of alcohol so we could improve the lives of these people and those around them and promote safe drinking habits
Potential health benefits
Drinking less alcohol can ultimately allow you to live a more healthy long life compared to what it could be if repeated alcohol abuse occurs. This campaign can help reduce any stress related to alcohol and prevent any diseases/illnesses arising from alcohol abuse (particularly liver disease). Drinking less alcohol can lead to less weight being gained. The body ensures the calories in alcohol are burned and puts the calories in food eaten before on hold. This can accumulate and cause weight gain which can further give rise to many other health problems. Staying fit and healthy is a priority to help you live more!
